Report: 41 homeless individuals died in Santa Barbara Co. in 2018

The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department has released its report looking into the number of homeless people who died in Santa Barbara County in 2018.

From January to December 2018, 41 individuals who were considered homeless died.

A large majority, 76 percent, were men.

The average age of death was 58.

Sixty-three percent died of natural causes while 22 percent died in an accidental manner and the remaining 15 percent died of suicide, homicide, or in a manner that could not be determined.

The total number of homeless deaths decreased slightly from 2017 to 2018.

In 2017, the county reported there were a total of 44 homeless deaths.
