A group of Black Lives Matter supporters gathered outside the San Luis Obispo County Courthouse Tuesday morning to participate in the Board of Supervisors virtual meeting.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the meetings have been closed to the public, but community members can watch the proceedings live online and call in for public comment.

Attendees say they were not only there to show support for the BLM movement but to learn more about local politics and to get involved.

"Our intentions of coming out here today is just to be more informed, educate ourselves and help keep the momentum that has been going all over social media locally and politically here in SLO," said Amman Asfaw.

Tuesday's gathering was one of several events planned throughout the week organized by BLM Community Action. Upcoming events include a demonstration focused on funding mental health programs scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Friday at Santa Rosa Park and a community vigil at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Mitchell Park.
