The San Luis Obispo County Department of Parks and Recreation started construction to replace a staircase that grants beach access in Cayucos.

The staircase being replaced is currently located on Pacific Street near the end of 1st Street.

The construction will allow for better beach access for pedestrians and public amenities, including a bench, bike racks and detailed signage about access. When the project is complete, it will create a safer way to get to the beach and increase the amount of recreational activities.

The Parks and Recreation Department wants to remind people to be aware of the safety barricades, traffic control and other measures that are up during construction.

Funding for the project is being provided by the Cayucos Business Improvement District Funds, County Quimby Area 2 fees, the California Coastal Commission, Supervisorial District 2 Community Project Funds and a grant from the California Coastal Conservancy.

Construction on the staircase will continue through November 4.
