Santa Barbara CHP said they made 7 arrests at a DUI Checkpoint Friday night.

6 arrests were made for DUI and one was made for a stolen vehicle.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department made one arrest Friday night at a DUI Checkpoint on Marsh Street.

SLO PD screened 565 vehicles at the checkpoint.

Officers place checkpoints in areas that have the greatest opportunity for deterring drunk and drugged drivers and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public.

SLO PD wants to remind drivers that driving while under the influence of prescription drugs or marijuana can also result in a DUI.

Police are encouraging drivers to download the Designated Driver VIP (DDVIP) app for mobile phones. DDVIP helps people find bars and restaurants that offer incentives for the designated sober driver.

Police suggest the following safety measures for drivers:

- designate a sober driver
- take a taxi
- use a shuttle
- stay at a hotel
- call 911 to report drunk drivers
