The Santa Barbara County Office of Arts and Culture on Thursday launched 805 Inspires, a family-friendly video series that highlights different museums and cultural institutions in the county.
In a news release sent to KSBY, a spokesperson for Santa Barbara County said 805 Inspires provides 15-minute videos to help community members learn about cultural assets from home. Teachers, parents, caregivers and students can use 805 Inspires videos for remote instruction and/or homeschooling.
Steve Windhager, executive director of the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, said he proposed the project as a way for participating institutions to acknowledge and thank the community for their support.
"During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, my colleagues and I were seeking a way to continue to give back to our community and bring a bit of our missions into everyone's home," said Windhager. "We thought sharing an activity that could be undertaken as a family would be a great way to start."
The spokesperson said 20 museums and cultural institutions across Santa Barbara County worked on the project, including Casa del Herrero, Santa Barbara Mission and Archives, Santa Barbara Zoo and UCSB Art, Design & Architecture Museum.
Community members can check out 805 Inspires here. Video segments will also air on TVSB's local public access TV channels 17 and 71.
