Hundreds of families in the Santa Maria-Bonita Unified School District were able to receive a week's worth of meals on Nov. 16.

The district gave 600 families a large box of food.

The school says this food was leftover from their supplies and going to families in need.

"We know that there's a definite need out there we want to make sure our students and their families have good nutritious food and there's no point in having it sit in our freezer or our stock room when it can be in the hands of students and their families," SMBUSD PIO Maggie White said.
