A Santa Maria gym is hosting a fundraiser for a man who lost the ability to move his arms and legs after a bike crash in Orcutt.

Dennis Fidel crashed while riding his bike on May 20, 2019. Fidel says he does not remember how the crash happened, but when he fell the impact rendered him unable to move his legs and arms.

Fidel had been biking since the 1990's, and he says his road to recovery has been a difficult one as he has gone through months of therapy and learning how to walk again.

The fundraiser will be at Custom Workouts at 2125 S. Broadway #108.

When the owner of Custom Workouts heard about the incident, he decided to help raise money to cover Fidel's bills.

"I would love to get back on the bike," says Fidel, "It's a passion of mine you know, I don't see myself living without it, its done wonders for me I would like to get out to the local community again and ride my bike."

The fundraiser will be held this Saturday, Nov. 23 at Custom Workouts 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

There will be a Santa Maria style barbecue for $12, a workout for $20, or $30 for both.
