The City of Santa Maria is implementing a new lottery system to determine how firework booths receive permits during the 2020 Fourth of July season.
The City says it's putting the change into effect to create a more equal playing field for non-profit organizations to sell fireworks as a fundraising opportunity.
The Santa Maria Fire Department and Recreation and Parks Department will administer the lottery.
A meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. to discuss the system to non-profits.
