The City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department distributed free 31-day bus passes for Santa Maria students in 7th to 12th grade.
Students who receive free or reduced school lunches were eligible for a pass paid for by grant monies received last summer.
Starting last July, more than 1,000 passes were handed out to local teens during a six-month period.
City staff is working on gathering grand funding to offer the pass-distribution program this summer.
The Mayor's Task Foce on Youth Safety and the Santa Maria Area Transit also helped make this program possible.
