Santa Maria's newest elementary school just got a big upgrade to its library.

Libbon Elementary School unloaded 12,500 new books for the library Monday. District library staff and reps from the company supplying the fiction and non-fiction books stocked the shelves Tuesday.

"We really are featuring the college and career rediness in our books diversity , STEM, just things that will interest our kids and get them reading and learning more," said Assistant Principal Shandee Bayne

Two hundred and five of the books are in Spanish.

The library is being stocked now instead of months ago because SMBSD schools started the year with Distrance Learning, according to SMBSD Public Information Officer Maggie White.
