Santa Maria’s Paul Nelson Aquatics Center will be partially reopening this month.
The pool closed in January for a major renovation project and was unable to reopen this spring due to COVID-19 concerns.
The City announced Wednesday that the Monday, July 20, reopening will be done in accordance with county health safety guidelines. It will not be open for public swimming hours.
“The pool will re-open for public lap swim, swim training programs and fitness courses,” according to Recreation Services Manager Dennis Smitherman. “We are in the process of completing re-certification of our lifeguard staff over the next two weeks.”
The City says a reservation system will be in place for lap swimmers. More information on that will be released after July 13.
The Santa Maria Lawn Bowling Club green will also re-open, but limits will be placed on the number of players and masks and social distancing will also be required.
