Russell Park in Santa Maria is expected to be the focus of a grant-funded rehabilitation project this summer.
The park will get a new playground, restrooms and walking path. It will also get upgrades to its landscaping, electrical and hardscape.
In a press release, the Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department stated:
"Improvements to Russell Park are necessary to modernize facilities in the park and revitalize the surrounding neighborhood with a destination for all residents to enjoy."
The two-acre park renovation will be funded by state and federal funds.
$625,142 in federal funds were awarded to the city from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Community Development Block Grant program. $232,414 in state funds were awarded to the city through the Housing-Related Parks Program.
The project is expected to be complete in the fall.
