The California Department of Fish and Wildlife offers two Free Fishing Days each year and this Saturday, August 31 is one of them.
On Saturday, anyone can go fishing without a sport fishing license.
All fishing regulations, such as bag and size limits, gear restrictions, report card requirements, fishing hours and stream closures remain in effect. Anyone fishing for steelhead or sturgeon anywhere in the state or salmon in the Smith and Klamath-Trinity River Systems must also have the appropriate report card.
Click here to check out the CDFW's online map-based Fishing Guide, which includes historically good places to fish, fish planting locations, boat launches, and other information.
A basic annual resident sport fishing license in California currently costs $49.94. A one-day sport fishing license costs $16.20.
