Schools in northern Santa Barbara County will close to reduce the spread of coronavirus.
The following school districts will close from Monday, March 16th through April 3rd:
- Santa Maria-Bonita School District,
- Santa Maria Joint Union High School District
- Orcutt Union School District
- Guadalupe Union School District
- Lompoc Unified School District
This closure also included all after school, early learning and adult school activities, according to a press release sent Sunday evening.
"We are optimistic that we will resume classroom instruction soon, but we will continue to evaluate what is best for our students, staff and community," said Maggie White, a spokeswoman with the
SMBSD.
In the statement, the districts will continue to monitor the pandemic and update school community members as necessary.
Local districts continue to encourage our community to take common-sense precautions to prevent the spread of infectious germs:
• If you are sick, stay home.
• Avoid close contact with those who are already sick.
• Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing with a tissue or the crook of your arm.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water. If you don’t have access to soap and water, hand sanitizer with an alcohol content of 60 or more is a great alternative
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
