Detectives are investigating the discovery of a human foot in rural Templeton.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office says a bicyclist reported finding the foot Sunday at around 9:15 a.m. near Santa Rita Road.

Due to the ongoing investigation, the sheriff’s office says the exact location of the discovery is not being released at this time. Witnesses say roads were closed Sunday morning while detectives searched the area of the 2800 block of Santa Rita Road.

“While the remains are suspicious in nature, it is too early in the investigation to determine if this is the result of an accident or foul play,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

The coroner’s office along with detectives in the sheriff’s major crimes unit will be conducting further analysis on the foot.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
