Vaccinations will open to more county residents starting next week.

Earlier this week, Governor Gavin Newsom announced a new plan that would set aside 10 percent of all vaccination doses for educators.

During a press conference this afternoon, County Public Health Director Dr. Penny Borenstein said teachers and childcare providers can get vaccinated beginning next week, but she cautioned there are still limited doses available.

“So our childcare providers and our kindergarten through 12th grade school, staff and teachers those doing in person services will have access starting next week to some number of appointments we are honoring our allocation of 10 percent that will go to that sector,” Dr. Penny Borenstein, San Luis Obispo County public health officer.

Borenstein says the county will prioritize agricultural workers and law enforcement officers next as they are able to open more of the current tier.

Those 65 and over as well as health care workers can also continue to be vaccinated.
