Wednesday night there was a kick-off event for the Student of the Year program.
The program is a seven-week philanthropic leadership program that helps raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Wednesday marked the start of the San Luis Obispo County campaign season. Nine teams will compete by fundraising for the fight against cancer.
"It's a leadership development opportunity really for them," said Freya Wilkerson, San Luis Obispo County Campaign Manager. "These students have been working for about four to five months on presentations; they meet with business owners; they do pitches; they have to have a why."
