San Luis Obispo County's annual Early Warning System siren test will take place this Saturday, August 22.

All 131 sirens located across the county will be sounded twice, at noon and 12:30 p.m., for three minutes each time.

No action is required on the part of the public during these tests.

The Early Warning System sirens were installed as one of the licensing requirements for the Diablo Canyon Power Plant, but they can be used for any local emergency. During an actual emergency, the sirens would sound to alert the public to tune into a local radio or television station to receive emergency information and instructions.

The sirens cover an area from Cayucos to the Nipomo Mesa.
