Local high school teams show off their creations at annual Robotics EXPO

Softec hosted the 11th Annual Students Robotics EXPO at the Madonna Inn on Monday.

Hundreds of local students got to try their hands at robotics and meet some of the industry leaders at the student robotics expo.

High school students helped coach younger kids on how to build and compete with robots.

They participated in interactive stations with drones, robots, virtual reality and special activities.

High school robotics teams demonstrated their own robots in competitions.

"The students learn how to do all the necessary tasks within the first two months," says Arroyo Grande High School Junior Hudson Reynolds, "the next months are just refining it and then building the actual robot, it's really hard but it's really fun."

Reynolds says his team took 5th place out of 45 teams. He says they even beat out teams from Brazil, Ukraine and Germany.

Softec distributed thousands of dollars in software grants to each of the teams. Softec has sponsored high school robotics teams since 2004 giving more than $75,000 of grants to date.
