Solvang Elementary School is almost finished in its efforts to make the campus completely solar-powered.
The solar field, which was installed on the upper field, will supply enough energy to run all electricity to the school, saving the elementary school nearly $95 thousand per year.
That money will be reinvested in the school's staff and for new programs.
"We're continually thinking about how we can improve programs and also how can we approve compensation for our outstanding staff," said Solvang School District Superintendent Steve Seaford.
It also allows for new air conditioning to the remaining classrooms.
Funding for the project is from a measure previously passed by voters.
