The 5Cities Homeless Coalition will open its winter Warming Center Saturday, November 30th.

People in need of shelter from the cold and wet conditions can check in at the center's new site located at 946 Rockaway Ave. off of 9th St.

The center will be open from 5 p.m. Saturday until 7 a.m. on Sunday, December 1st. Guests may come no later than 8 p.m.

At the center, overnight guests will be provided with a dry place to sleep and a hot meal. Sleeping cots and bedding will be provided as available.

In addition to those amenities, guests can play board games, read and relax.

Staff members say pets are not allowed.

According to coordinators, the Center has an open door policy. Sobriety is not a condition for entry, however no drugs or alcohol are permitted on site. Once at the shelter, guests will not be permitted to re-enter if they choose to leave.

For services available to families, please email info@5chc.org or call (805) 574-1638. If you would like to get automatic text updates when the center is open, you can text "Add Me" with your Name to 805-710-4330.

The center may be open in the future if the weather forecast shows a 50% chance of rain or temperatures dropping below 40 degrees.
