Templeton revisits the possibility of becoming a city

The Templeton community revisited the possibility of becoming a city on Tuesday.

The community held a meeting where they discussed the process of incorporating.

Templeton has tried twice before--in 1984 and 1991--but concluded that they didn't generate enough tax revenue to be independent.

"The process is complex, and it's challenging," said Jeff Briltz, General Manager of Templeton Community Services District. "There may be many people in the community who want Templeton to become a city, but there's a number of hurdles that we're going to have to overcome if that's going to be pursued. We'd have to be able to afford and provide all those services [a city can]--and at this point in time we don't know if that's going to be possible or not"

Briltz said the community meeting was more of a fact-finding mission and that there would be no "good" or "bad" results regardless.
