Alerts may be seen across television stations or heard on the radio Wednesday morning but officials say it’s only a test.
The test of the National Emergency Alert System is taking place at 11:20 a.m.
This is the fifth nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System. The first was conducted in November 2011 and the last in October 2018.
The intent of this year's test, being conducted by FEMA, "is to evaluate the readiness of the national alerting capability in the absence of internet connectivity."
Officials say there will be no cell phone notifications made in conjunction with the test.
Additionally, in San Luis Obispo, first responders are taking part in a training exercise at French Hospital Medical Center involving San Luis Ambulance, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office and Diablo Canyon.
