The Santa Maria Public Library is now open on Sundays and has new hours during the weekdays.

Thanks to Measure U funding, the library will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. every Sunday and will open and close one hour earlier Monday through Thursday.

Friday and Saturday hours will stay the same at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

To celebrate the new Sunday hours, the library invited K-Pop, a Pioneer Valley High School Dance Club and Righetti High School's ballet Folklorico Dance Club, to perform.

"I think it's a community centerpiece here and it's free and it's a great family place for people who don't have a lot of money to spend on the weekends with entertainment," said Mary Housel, the library director. "They can come here and look at art and read books."

The library director says she is thankful that the voters of Santa maria and Santa Maria City Council approved the library's new hours.
