Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) says operators at Diablo Canyon Power Plant safely shut down Unit 2 on Sunday for a scheduled refueling and maintenance outage.
During the planned outage, PG&E says employees and approximately 1,000 temporary workers will replace a portion of the reactor fuel and conduct maintenance and systems tests.
Each of the two reactors at the nuclear power plant are refueled approximately every 20 months.
Unit 1 remains in operation while Unit 2 is offline.
