The bi-annual Serve Santa Maria event is just a few days away and preparations are in full gear.
Work is already underway to get supplies ready for the big event Saturday to help beautify the city.
Organizers say 300-500 volunteers are needed.
The beautification projectsthis year include:
- Helping paint, weed and cleanup a mobile home park on S. Thornburg Street
- Painting a map of the U.S. at Orcutt Academy along with weeding
- Painting the education building at St. Andrews United Methodist Church
- Painting a home
- Cleaning up backyards and fences
Volunteers can register at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center, 600 S. McClelland St., Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
There will be donuts and juice and juice available before a short opening gets underway at 9 a.m. and volunteers disperse to their projects.
Lunch will be provided by the Salvation Army.
