Ascendo Coffee in San Luis Obispo and Los Osos is open to serve customers despite changes in how the cafe does business.
Ascendo has been in business for nine years and pride's itself on specialty grade, ethically sourced and personally roasted coffee.
Owner Jonathan Stauf said the role a coffee shop plays in the community is why they will continue to stay open. He said the regular customers are keeping them in business.
"It's really encouraging to see how often somebody runs into somebody they know here just grabbing a latte to go," Stauf said. "And they get so excited because it's a little bit of normal life for a minute. You know, we're running into a friend at a coffee shop."
Ascendo has had to furlough employees but Stauf said he is hoping to utilize the federally funded stimulus package to bring staff back on the payroll.
The cafe is offering to-go orders and free home delivery on its most popular house-made items. They have also started selling hand sanitizer for $6.
Ascendo is open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m and weekends from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
