A World War II veteran celebrated his 100th birthday Friday by attempting to break a world record.
A small group of friends and family gathered at the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport to cheer on Captain Harry Moyer.
He flew his Mooney-style plane with the goal of setting the world record for "oldest living pilot capable of soloing."
Moyer says flying has always been an exciting experience for him.
"Flying a plane is just an exhilarating experience for me," he said. "It gives you a, I don't know, a view of the ground, a view of the air, and it takes you to places that just are superb."
Moyer still needs to submit footage of his flight to the Guinness Book of World Records.
A panel will review his request and determine whether he actually broke the record.
