Health officials in Florida announced Friday night that two people had died from coronavirus (COVID-19).

These deaths are the first ones reported on the East Coast. Prior, Washington and California were the only two states to have reported fatalities.

Health officials said that the two deaths were in Lee County and in Santa Rosa County.

Helen Aguirre Ferre, a spokeswoman for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, confirmed the deaths on Twitter, writing the individuals were in their 70s and had traveled overseas.

One of the Florida deaths was a man with underlying health issues.

According to the Florida Department of Health six Florida residents have presumptively tested positive for coronavirus in the state.
