Santa Barbara County supervisors took a stand against a proposal from the Bureau of Land Management that uses parts of the Central Coast for more oil and gas development.

Supervisor Greg Hart sponsored a resolution to send to the federal government.

It states the county's opposition to the government's plan to utilize 122,000 acres of land in Santa Barbara County for oil drilling and fracking.

The Bureau of Land Management announced earlier this month its plans to begin oil and gas leasing and development on over 700,000 acres of land in Fresno, Monterey, and San Benito counties.

BLM says it expects a decision soon on its plans for federal lands in Santa Barbara county.
