The Allan Hancock College football team dropped its home opener to No. 5 Ventura College, 29-28, Saturday afternoon in Santa Maria.
The back-and-forth battle started right away in the 1st quarter when the Bulldogs answered the Pirates’ first score with an Isaac Bausley rushing touchdown to make it 7-6.
After falling down 22-7 in the 3rd quarter, Hancock countered with 21-straight points including a 16-yard touchdown scamper by Bausley to get the rally started just before the 4th quarter.
The comeback was all for naught as Ventura punched in a late touchdown to grab the lead for good and spoil the Bulldogs’ first home game of the season.
Hancock will put its 1-1 record on the line next Saturday when they host West L.A. at 2 P.M.
