The heat starts to break

Thursday was a blazing day for the interior as expected with highs topping 100. Friday will cool a little for inland areas but dramatically cooler temps are expected this weekend.

The reason for the cool-down will the collapse of the upper level ridge over The West. This will deepen the marine influence and onshore flow bringing cooler air much further inland by the weekend.

At the coast Thursday was another grey day at beaches but mild to warm away from the beaches. Friday will also cool a bit i nthe coastal valleys while beaches see little difference.

The night and morning low clouds should then expand inland from the coast Friday night thru Sunday morning and reach portions of the adjacent valleys.

Otherwise, mostly clear skies will continue across the region thru Sunday.

So while the weekend looks pleasant, I can see the ridge starting to build again next week. Tuesday-Thursday I think inland temps get back to the upper 90s to 100+ range again. I could see another round of heat advisories inland while the stubborn marine deck returns to the coast.
