Brush fire breaks out off Prefumo Canyon Rd. in SLO

UPDATE (11:45 a.m.) - Fire officials say the fire is contained.

Crews are expected to remain on scene for another two hours to conduct mop up operations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

(10:36 a.m.) - Firefighters are responding to a brush fire off Prefumo Canyon Rd. in San Luis Obispo.

It fire broke out shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday.

CAL FIRE says the fire has so far burned a 50x50 foot spot midway up a hillside, but has the potential to burn 5 to 10 acres. It is reportedly burning at a slow to moderate rate of spread.

Crews from both CAL FIRE and San Luis Obispo City Fire were assigned to the incident.

The public was asked to avoid the area.
