Cal Fire is using technology to make a difference in getting people prepared for the fire season. With high temperatures impacting much of the state right now, Cal Fire is reminding residents to visit their web-based app to create a custom wildfire action plan.
California is experiencing one of the busiest fire seasons in history, which makes wildfire preparedness, more crucial than ever. Cal Fire's new web-based app serves two functions, education and protection.
"I would say a lot of people are not necessarily as prepared as they think they are, because it always comes down to that oh it will never happen to me kind of thought process, so a lot of people are not prepared," said Cal Fire Spokesperson, Lynne Tolmachoff.
Tolmachoff notes that having a, "nice checklist made specifically for you and the person you are is very helpful."
On Cal Fire's website you can take the survey and answer questions like if you are a homeowner or renter, if you have a driveway or vegetation around your home, and if you have children or a disability. Based off this information, the web-based app will give you a custom action plan.
In addition, you can find tips on low cost retrofits, fire resistant landscaping, and an emergency supply checklist. You can visit the Cal Fire website, readyforwildfire.org to access all this information and more.
