Assembling an emergency supply kit is important when being ordered to evacuate.
The CalFire website hosts a list of the necessary items to pack.
Some items to pack when disaster occurs include:
- Three-day supply of non-perishable food
- Three gallons of water per person
- Sanitation supplies
- Copies of important documents (birth certificate, passports, etc.)
- Prescriptions/medications
- First aid kit
- Flashlight
- Any pets (including pet food and water)
If time allows, the website says you should bring easily carried valuable and other irreplaceable items. This also includes personal computer information and chargers.
The CalFire website says it is important to leave as soon as an evacuation is recommended to avoid being trapped in the fire.
