Los Padres National Forest fire crews plan to burn piles of dead trees and brush in the forest over the next two weeks.
Pile burning may begin as soon as March 2 and continue through March 13.
Fire officials say the burning will occur near Figueroa Mountain and other locations within the forest.
The goal is to reduce the risk of wildfire by eliminating fuels.
The Forest Service is working with the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (APCD), San Luis Obispo County APCD, San Joaquin Valley APCD, Ventura County APCD, and the California Air Resources Board to minimize smoke impacts on nearby communities. If weather conditions aren't favorable for smoke dispersal, the burning will be rescheduled.
Burning will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. on permissive burn days.
Additional burns are expected in March.
