OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say they have charged the grandson of a missing 71-year-old Oakland woman with killing her.

The East Bay Times reports Tuesday that 33-year-old Maurice Washington Jr. was charged with murder in the death of Theola Polk, who was last seen alive July 6 at her Oakland home.

Court records show Washington was initially arrested by police on July 14 on a misdemeanor drug charge warrant and has since told investigators his grandmother is death and admitted he was involved in her death.

Authorities say he has refused to help police find her.

Investigators believe Polk was killed in her apartment. They have not said how they believe she was killed, but according to court records several blood stained items were found inside her apartment.

It was not immediately known if Washington had an attorney.
