MGM to remove six-pointed star from security uniforms

CLEVELAND (AP) — An inquiry by a weekly Cleveland newspaper has prompted casino operator MGM Resorts International to say it will remove a six-pointed star from yellow security guard shirts a casino guest says “screams” the Jude star Nazi Germany forced Jews to wear.

The Cleveland Jewish News reports the Nevada-based company said Tuesday it would begin the process of removing and changing a logo that includes the MGM lion.

The newspaper pursued the story after a woman noticed the logo this month at MGM Northfield Park outside Cleveland.

June Scharf says she has family members who died in the Holocaust and the logo takes her back to that painful past.

An MGM spokeswoman says the company regrets having offended anyone and is committed to diversity and inclusion.
