Governor Gavin Newsom announcing he will not extend the operation of nuclear power plant, Diablo Canyon, beyond 2030.
Newsom says he will leave the fate of the plant up to the next administration.
On August 6, more than 60 elected officials across California signed a letter urging state lawmakers to extend power plant operations beyond the current closure date of 2030.
The Federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission has already approved operations through 2045 but the plan needs state approval to continue past 2030.
Newsom made the announcement at a recent press conference in Oakland where he was speaking about clean energy milestones in the state.
