The stormy start to 2026 didn't stop people from getting in their shorts and swimsuits and plunging into the ocean at the Avila Beach Polar Bear Plunge.
The annual tradition held on New Year's Day is a celebration of fitness, nature and community.
The tradition started back in 2013 when two Shell Beach friends decided to take a dip in the ocean in Avila Beach to celebrate the new year.
The free event took place at noon as people braved the chilly waters.
