UPDATE (5:31 p.m.) - The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office confirms nobody else was injured during an active shooter incident in Nipomo on Friday in which the gunman was shot and killed by law enforcement.

The suspect's name has not yet been released.

Sheriff's officials are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or who may have video of the incident to contact them at (805) 781-4500.

They say during the incident, the suspect made contact with a person driving a four-door black hatchback. They're also asking that person to contact the sheriff's office.

UPDATE (12:51 p.m.) - Sheriff's officials say the man responsible for a shooting outside the Vons gas station in Nipomo on Friday is dead.

Officials say deputies and CHP officers engaged with the suspect in the parking lot and shot him. The officers were reportedly uninjured.

Witnesses said the shooter fired 7-8 shots following some sort of altercation at the gas station.

A heavy law enforcement presence remains on scene and people are asked to avoid the 500 block of West Tefft Street.


UPDATE (12:15 p.m.) - San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's deputies say they have one person in custody following a shooting near the Vons in Nipomo.

According to CHP, the Tefft on and off ramps are closed along Highway 101 in Nipomo. The Tefft and Mary Avenue intersection is also closed.

The area at the Vons Fuel Station remains active, law enforcement is asking everyone to stay clear of the scene.

Law enforcement is still working to confirm if there are any injuries as a result of the shots fired.

(11:38 a.m.) -San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's deputies are responding to shots fired near the Vons in Nipomo.

The store is located in the 500 block of West Tefft Street.

Sheriff's officials are asking the public to stay away from the area as units are responding to the scene.
