People in Atascadero filled up on tamales this past Saturday at the 4th Annual Tamale Festival.
The festival included Judge’s Favorite and People’s Choice contests. The winners are:

Traditional:

- 2nd Place – Mary’s Cuisine Catering, San Luis Obispo
- 3rd Place – Maria’s Catering, Anaheim
Gourmet:
- 1st Place – La Luz Del Mundo, Ontario
- 2nd Place – Los Osos Mexican Market, Los Osos
- 3rd Place – Barrett’s Tamales, Huntington Beach
Sweet:
- 1st Place – La Luz Del Mundo, Santa Ana
- 2nd Place – Barrett’s Tamales, Huntington Beach
- 3rd Place – Los Osos Mexican Market, Los Osos

In the Tamale Eating Contest, Shawn Romagno took first place in the 12 and over category. He finished five tamales in under two minutes. Daniel Nava won first place in the under-12 category by being able to eat two tamales in the fastest time.
The 2020 Tamale Festival is scheduled to take place on January 18.
