The Santa Maria and Orcutt Lions Clubs are asking for donations of used eyeglasses as part of the fifth annual Lions Eyes Across California.

According to the Lions Eyes Across California Facebook page, their mission is to promote awareness of Lions eyeglass recycling efforts and celebrate Lions in each district and their respective communities.

Prescription glasses are preferred for donations, but they will accept reading glasses, prescription sunglasses, and parts of glasses or lenses.

“The donated eyeglasses are taken to a couple of locations where they are refurbished and redistributed in underserved communities,” said Laura Selken, Santa Maria Noontime Lions Club Secretary.

Donations can be dropped off in the Santa Maria Town Center West parking lot in front of the Fallas Discount Store from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 16.

The Lions Clubs will also accept donations of used hearing aids, cell phones and ink cartridges.
