Pioneer Valley High School in Santa Maria is getting ready to present the musical “Guys and Dolls.”

“Guys and Dolls” tells the story of three small-time gamblers who argue over which horse will win a big race.

“It’s a story about the gamblers of 1940s New York City and the women who love them,” explained drama teacher Shawnah Van Gronigen.

The students have been rehearsing since December.

“The music is so great. My favorite song is ‘I’ve Never Been in Love Before,’ which I get to sing,” said PVHS senior Gabriela Ramirez. She plays the character of Sgt. Sarah Brown.

Senior Allan Holquin plays Sky Masterson in the musical.

“It’s a great show about unlikely lovers,” he said. “They’re very funny and it’s a comedy show.”

There are a total of 40 students involved in the production as both cast and crew members.

The show runs April 4-6 and 11-13 at the school’s performing arts center. Showtime is 7 p.m. each day.

Admission is $8 for students and seniors and $12 for adults.
