The new all-inclusive Joy Playground in Atascadero will officially open for play on Friday, April 5.

A grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony is planned to take place from 4-7 p.m.

Joy Playground is located next to the Colony Park Community Center at 5599 Traffic Way.

The playground was designed for all kids to enjoy, including those with special needs. Special features include stainless steel slides which are a necessity for those with cochlear implants, swings with harness systems to keep children upright, and a custom accessible treehouse designed for kids who can’t physically climb a ladder.

The City of Atascadero worked with Parents for Joy to raise money for the playground. Fundraising began in 2014. Donations are still being accepted.

Friday’s ceremony is open to the public. It will include live music and food and drinks available for purchase, including a BBQ by the Atascadero Kiwanis and Rotary groups and snacks from Orange Dog Café and Paradise Ice.
