The new school year starts in just a few weeks, and for some families, stocking up on the necessary supplies can be a financial burden.

KSBY has again partnered with the United Way for the annual Stuff the Bus campaign.

The donation drive collects school supplies for underprivileged families in San Luis Obispo County and northern Santa Barbara County.

All donations go straight to local school districts which then distribute the items to families in need.

“Our mission is to help kids succeed in school,” said Linda Wingert of the United Way of San Luis Obispo County. “We want every child to have equal access to education and to be able to start the school year off right with that extra boost of confidence you get from being prepared.”

The donation drive kicks off Friday, August 9 and continues through Sunday, August 11.

The goal is to fill a school bus with school supplies.

Those buses will be stationed at the following locations:

  • Kmart, Atascadero
  • Walmart, Arroyo Grande
  • Staples, San Luis Obispo
  • Walmart & Staples, Paso Robles
  • Cookie Crock Warehouse, Cambria
  • Walmart, Santa Maria
  • Walmart, Lompoc
