UPDATE (7:17 p.m.) - The CHP has confirmed the Toyota driver killed in the crash was 27-years-old. The CHP says the 73-year-old male driver of the BMW who suffered minor to moderate injuries was driving at 65 mph and did not observe the disabled overturned blacked out Toyota ahead of him in the #1 lane. Authorities say the BMW hit the Toyota and it is not known at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash of the victim who died.

UPDATE (1:57 a.m.) - All lanes on SB HWY 101 near Pismo Beach have reopened following a fatal rollover crash that killed one driver.

UPDATE : One person was pronounced dead in connection with the fatal crash that prompted the closure of SB HWY 101.
According to the California Highway Patrol San Luis Obispo, at approximately 11:13 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, a Toyota truck was traveling on the SB 101 when it veered into the right-hand shoulder and traveled up onto an embankment before ultimately rolling over on top of a BMW sedan.
The driver in the Toyota truck was pronounced dead at 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24. The driver and solo occupant of the BMW sedan suffered minor injuries.
The highway closure was triggered by debris scattered across all lanes.
According to CHP, SB HWY 101 is expected to remain closed until approximately 3 a.m. to allow CHP to investigate the cause of the accident.

To continue traveling southbound on HWY 101, detour from HWY 101 SB to San Luis Bay Dr to Ontario to Avila and back onto US-101 SB.
