Central Coast Living: Julefest in Solvang

and last updated

Each year in December Solvang transforms into a Christmas town with plenty of free and fun activities for the family for Julefest.

"I can see Santa in the village. I can go caroling on Saturdays and do a historical candlelit tour around town," said Tracy Farhad of the Solvang Conference & Visitors Bureau.

Farhad recommends starting the adventures at the visitor center. There people can get a map of events and a treasure hunt for Danish elves called "nisse".

"You can come and find them. There are over a dozen of them around hiding in town. If you can spot them all you come to our visitors center and we’ll give you a little prize," said Farhad.

One nisse is in the village by Santa’s workshop. Another one may be hiding near Solvang Restaurant, where they serve holiday treats like aebleskiver.

"It’s nice to be known for something. It really is, it’s a pleasure. It’s a passion of ours to take care of this the right way," said Custodio Campos who makes the aebleskiver at Solvang Restaurant.
