The Thomas Fire has burned 281,620 acres as of Monday morning and CAL FIRE officials say it is 86 percent contained.
Fire officials shared the good news Christmas Eve that the containment increased from 70 percent to 86 percent throughout the day.
About 1,586 fire personnel are still working on the fire. Los Padres National Forest tweeted Christmas greetings from random crew members throughout the weekend.

The base camps will serve top-notch food to the fire crews in hopes of making them feel better about being away from loved ones on the holiday; Christmas Eve finished with a turkey dinner and Christmas Day was full of tamales and prime rib.
The fire fight will continue for a couple more weeks as they aim for their Jan. 7 deadline. Read more about their plan and fighting conditions here.
