A 94-year-old Nipomo man went for a walk recently that could have landed him in the hospital.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the man fell face down in the middle of the road at Primavera and Cielo Lane and was found by a passing CHP sergeant.

CAL FIRE and San Luis Ambulance were called to the scene and provided first aid. They recommended the man be taken to a hospital, but he reportedly refused.

The CHP says they offered to drive him home, but he also refused the ride, saying he had gone for a walk and was going to finish it.

When all pleas failed, a CAL FIRE firefighter decided to walk with the man several blocks back to his home to make sure he arrived safely. CHP San Luis Obispo shared a photo of the moment on Facebook with the message, "Great Job Cal Fire!"
